Dr. Maarten den Heijer is an Assistant Professor of International Law at the University of Amsterdam. Previously he has been a legislative lawyer at the Dutch Ministry of Home Affairs and he obtained his PhD at the Leiden Institute of Immigration Law. His recent publications include ‘Europe Beyond its Borders: Refugee and Human Rights Protection in Extraterritorial Immigration Control’ (2010), and ‘The Marine I Case: a Comment’ in the International Journal of Refugee Law (2010 with K. Wouters).
